Studio Filmowe Oko was established in 1984 as then Zespół Filmowy Oko (managed by a distinguished director and screenwriter Tadeusz Chmielewski). In 1989 Oko film studio took its current legal form. It is one of the oldest film production companies of feature films and TV series.

The company has produced a variety of film genres. Its productions include art films such as “Wrony” / „Crows” by Dorota Kędzierzawska and Andrzej Barański’s films „Nad rzeką, której nie ma”/ „By the River Nowhere”, “Kobieta z prowincji” / “Woman from the Provinces”, “Tabu” / “Taboo”, “Kramarz” / “The Peddler”, and “Kawalerskie życie na ojczyźnie”. In its long history Studio Filmowe Oko has produced several very successful films, e.g. 1980s comedies by Roman Załuski (“Och Karol”/ “Oh, Charles!”, “Kogel-Mogel” / “Hotch-Potch”) and a popular film trilogy of Jacek Bromski „U Pana Boga za piecem” / „In Heaven As It Is on Earth”, “U Pana Boga w ogródku” / “God’s Little Garden”, and “U Pana Boga za miedzą” / “God's Little Village”, as well as “U Pana Boga w ogródku” TV series. In the last few years the company has also been involved in supporting young filmmakers. It co-produced “Galerianki” / “Mall Girls” by Katarzyna Rosłaniec – debut of the year at the 28th Koszaliński Festiwal Debiutów Filmowych Młodzi i Film. In addition, the company participates in film school production. One of its productions, “Opowiadanie” by Marcin Pieczonka, was awarded at the 55th Film Festival in Melbourne in the student film category. Recently, the company has been producing Julia Kolberger’s diploma film. Studio Film Oko has participated in numerous international co-productions e.g. “Ucieczka” / “The Escape” by Livia Gyarmathy (with Hungary and Germany) “Król Sokołów” / “Thomas the Falconer” (with Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and France), and “Smacznego Telewizorku” / “Bon Appetite, My Little TV” (with Estonia and Kazakhstan).

Company’s productions received many significant awards at Polish and international film festivals, i.e.: Young Cinema Forum Award at the Berlinale in 1986 for “Kobieta z prowincji” directed by Andrzej Barański; Coup de Coeur for “Wrony” by Dorota Kędzierzawska at the IFF in Cannes (the film was also Polish Oscar candidate in 1994); Golden Ombu for Jacek Bromski, author of the “To ja, złodziej” / “It’s Me, the Thief”at the Mar Del Plata; Grand Prix for the best foreign language film at the WorldFest in Houston for “U Pana Boga za miedzą” by Jacek Bromski. Company’s activity follows the tradition of the Polish film studios Zespoły Filmowe. It considers literary works on screenplays the most important stage in film production. Studio invests money, time, and its activity especially in the development phase in order to ensure high quality of its production. It is considered to be a reliable co-production partner by both Polish and foreign producers. The company welcomes cooperation with international partners, especially in family film production and films for children and youth.
