Galicja Oficyna Filmowa, established in 1988, is an independent production company. Galicja’s owner and president Leopold René Nowak is a film director, screenwriter, actor, publicist, publisher, and cultural activist. He has worked as director’s assistant, assistant director, and screenwriter in Zespół Filmowy Iluzjon, Kadr and Syrena in Warszawa, in Polish TV, and in Wywtórnia Filmów Fabularnych Se-Ma-For. He has also published, among
others, in Dziennik Polski, Przekrój, Życie Literackie, Gazeta Krakowska, and in German Bunte Illustrierte, and Bild und Funk.

Galicja produced the first Polish feature film financed with private funding, “Oko cyklonu” (1989) directed by Henry Kostrubca. Company’s productions also include documentaries “Koniec epoki Guttenberga” (1996) and “Diaspora. Historia Żydów polskich” series, as well as news report from the 31st International Short Film Festival in Krakow “Festiwal! Festiwal! I co dalej…” (1995). Galicja has also been active on the publishing market and has done several publication, e.g. for the International Film and TV Market, U.S. Constitution with preface by Leopold Nowak, and a book of aphorisms “Myśli zaskoczone”.
