Bow and Axe Entertainment was founded in 1990 by film producer Marek Nowowiejski. In 1991 he produced the first independent Polish film since 1989 ‘Wszystko, co najważniesze’, directed by Robert Gliński. The picture won four awards at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in 1992, including Grand Prix Golden Lions and Journalists’ Choice Award for best film. Furthermore, ‘Wszystko, co najważniesze’, Polish candidate for the Academy Award, was qualified for the competition as one of eight pre-nominated films. Since then, Bow and Axe Entertainment has produced several feature films (e.g. ‘Haker’ directed by Janusz Zaorski) and over fifty documentary films such as ‘Śmierć Zygielbojma’ (dir. Dżamila Ankiewicz) and ‘Bitwa o Warszawę’ for Discovery Channel about the Warszawa Uprising. The latter has been broadcasted in 46 countries. Bow and Axe has also been supporting educational projects by donating 6,000 DVDs ‘Bitwa o Warszawę’ to various schools. The company produced Piotr Dumała’s animated film ‘Zbrodnia i kara’, which has received awards at many national and international festivals. Bow and Axe also produces commercials and TV programmes (recently ‘The Amazing Rac’e for CBS).
